Adopt-A-Bull's Christmas Weekend in Pictures:

Posted December 27, 2009 8:54 pm

Christmas at the Adopt-A-Bull Wranch was quite busy to say the least! This weekend we welcomed Maximus Pig, Bugsy & Abby (again) into rescue while Hamlet got adopted! Saturday we had a little after Christmas bullie wash and the bullies enjoyed the time just hanging out!

At first, we were extremely hesistant about taking Nora into our rescue, with such a shortage of space already and lack of funds, this Bullie Mix not only needed to be spayed, but she was also in desperate need of having her entropion eyes surgically corrected. We took her in after being won over by her personality and sweet, gentle spirit. This Wednesday, she will be going in for her surgeries and she is really a special girl.

Merry Christmas Everybullie!

Posted December 25, 2009 11:02 am

'Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town,
every shelter is full - we are lost but not found,
Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
we hope every minute that someone will care,
They'll come to adopt us and give us the call,
"Come here, Max and Sparkie - come fetch your new ball!!
But now we sit here and think of the days
we were treated so fondly - we had cute, baby ways.
Once we were little, then we grew and we grew,
now we're no longer young and we're no longer new.

So out the back door we were thrown like the trash,
they reacted so quickly - why were they so rash?
We "jump on the children:, "don't come when they call",
we "bark when they leave us", climb over the wall.
We should have been neutered, we should have been spayed,
now we suffer the consequence of the errors THEY made.
If only they'd trained us, if only we knew,
we'd have done what they asked us and worshiped them, too.
We were left in the backyard, or worse - left to roam,
now we're tired and lonely and out of a home.
They dropped us off here and they kissed us good-bye,
"Maybe someone else will give you a try."

So now here we are, all confused and alone,
in a shelter with others who long for a home.
The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat,
with so many to care for, they can't stay to chat,
They move to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer,
we know that they wonder how long we'll be here.
We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads,
of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds.
Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears,
our friends filled with emptiness, worry, and fear.

If you can't adopt us and there's no room at the Inn,
could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?
We count on your kindness each day of the year,
can you give more than hope to everyone here?
Please make a donation to pay for the heat
and help get us something special to eat.
The shelter that cares for us wants us to live,
and more of us will, if more people will give.

I've gotten this card several times over the past couple years :) While it's so friggin' cute, I'm happy to say that all my boys are glad that "their boyz" have been surgically removed! lol :)

Wigglet pic overload! She's 4 pounds 4 ounces today and turns 6 weeks tomoro!

Wiggles & Wigglet reunited briefly today!

Posted December 19, 2009 7:30 pm

Wiggles went to the vet today for a skin infection. She has been put on antibiotics and special medicated shampoo. Overall, she is doing fabulously in foster care, here's what her fosters have to say: "Wiggles is a very active bulldog. She has way more energy than our 1 year old bullie! She loves to explore our house and the backyard. We are so happy to have Wiggles and she will make somebody's home complete. She's very affectionate with us and with Brody. Wiggles loves to lick Brody's ears and believe me Brody doesn't mind that at all. We don't think she realizes that she's a big girl, 63lbs to be exact! She tries to fit in places that she cant fit into at all! Wiggles truly is an amazing girl or as we call her "mamma"!" While at the vet, mommie Erica came by with Wigglet to get her checked out as today she's 39 days old! Wigglet is doing great! We let her have a very brief visit with her momma.

Boomer adopted! Bruno II, Millie, Dozer IV Updates!

Posted December 17, 2009 6:42 pm

New information on Millie discovered yesterday: In 2005 Millie was surrendered to the pound on the west side of Florida by her owners. Shortly after her arrival at the pound, she was adopted out to an adult couple. Now we all know that these government run shelters hardly do any screening on the potential adopters. Very very risky for any dog, especially an English Bulldog. Well, the new adopters admitted to never ever taking Millie to a vet in the 4 years they had her! :( When asked what they did about her annual vaccines and rabies shot they replied: "Well we got all that done at the shelter before we adopted her!" We discovered they still have another dog in the home, needless to say, we will be calling their local authorities to inform them of this so they can check on that dog :(

Millie Update from fosters: We did the medicated shower on Sunday and yesterday and amazing enough the hair on her ears are growing back. Her eyes are less swollen but she still have discharge. Hopefully it will keep on getting better. The inflammation on her feet has gotten a little bit better but we noticed that she was licking her paws and biting them which made them very red and even caused herself to bleed a little bit so we had to take certain measures... "The doughnut". She wasn't very happy but we had too bc if not her feet are never going to get better. Ever since we gave her the first epsom salt soak the inflammation in her feet have gotten better. She is not limping as much, which is GREAT bc that means that she feels some sort of relief. We did the ear cleaning Sunday and yesterday but her Ears are REALLY bad. The liquid wouldn't even go down in the right ear so I'm hoping that with the new medication it starts to get better.
